(VMX) Support Tip: How to move HPE VM Explorer to another computer?

Move VM Explorer and maintain the configuration without keeping the backup history

  1. Check if there are any unfinished tasks still running in the old VM Explorer. If so, wait that all tasks are finished or manually stop them.

  2. Install VM Explorer on the new computer.

  3. Stop the "Trilead VM Explorer Service" in both computers.

  4. Copy the following folder to the new computer (exact same path structure):
    C:\ProgramData\Trilead\VMX\DB

  5. Start the service "Trilead VM Explorer Service" in both computers.

  6. On the old computer, export the VMX config file (Admin -> Settings -> Export / Imort config file).

  7. Copy the VMX.conf file to the new computer.

  8. On the new computer, import the VMX config file (Admin -> Settings -> Export / Imort config file).

  9. In the old installation, disable the scheduler of VM Explorer in order to avoid overlapping of tasks between the two installations.

  10. Remove the license from the old computer (Settings -> License Manager -> Remove)

  11. Add the license to the new computer  (Settings -> License Manager -> Activate)

Hints:

  1. Prepare and test your new VM Explorer configuration, before deleting the old one.
  2. Be careful to not have the two VM Explorer Schedulers running at the same moment as this could create overlapping backups.
