UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Hi All,
I have to integrate uCMDB with DDMi. Following hp_man_BAC8.02_DDMi_integration_pdf.pdf I see that Integration is made with uCMDB Federation. Can anyone give me any useful information about this Integration?

Thanks
MIchele

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Hi Michele

From some reason, I am unable to reach the PDF you are mentioning , but the 8.04 UCMDB-DDMi pdf (see link below) state pretty much the same, i.e: the integration is based on UCMDB replication, done with a specific adapter, which is based on the Generic DB Adapter .

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM864453/binary/UCMDB8.04_DDMi_Integration.pdf?searchIdentifier=-7d7ed7b3%3a12b5b25a787%3a-10ff&resultType=document

For info about UCMDB federation and replication (this is not the same...), plus the Generic DB Adapter, see the UCMDB integrations PDF, "part II - Federation and Reconciliation".

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Hi Amit,
thanks for your answer.
My document is in
http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM754796/binary/BAC8.02_DDMi_integration.pdf?searchIdentifier=-7d7ed7b3%3a12b5b25a787%3a9e9&resultType=document

In this document is shown DDMi Federation as an out-of-the-box federation. In your document EDDBIntegration is a customization of GenericDBAdabter.

Could you clarify me this difference?
Thanks in advance Amit!!!

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Thaks to All,

Dmitry: Fortunately, we have this feature in BSM9.0 (also if I think It was better in EUM Application area rathere than EUM Admin), but unfortunately our customer has 8.03 and upgrade to 9 is not so immediate. Thanks anyway.

Danny Wang: are you sure that with PI is possible to run BPM script? I think only Sitescope monitor.

Ilya Reshetnikov: I can image the reasons of your solution, but for our customer(that any operator has a lot of activities to do) we prefer say that his request is not possible to implement. We have suggested that for "strategic" profile they can set a higher monitor run frequency.

Thanks for your sugegstions

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Hi Michele

I definitely agree that this is some confusing, but actually it will get to the same results, both are based on the same generic DB adapter, and uses the same technology , with 2 ways to set up the source adapter
.see page 2 vs. page 10-11 on the 2 files

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Thanks Amit, another question. Looking on web I saw that It possible to use instead of EDDBAdapter a DDM_Integration Discovery Module. Naturally in this case we must have a DDM Probe.
Could you suggest me which are the differences?
Thanks in advance

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

Hi Michele,

I am not familier with this integration, from a quick look it seems like the way to integrate HP SIM with HP UCMDB.

http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/ecosystem.html

"Import detailed hardware and software data from HP SIM into HP uCMDB on a scheduled basis via new DDM integration module "

I Guess the HP SIM forums is the place for getting info related to this integration:

Re: UCMDB 8.04 - DDMi 7.6 Integration

The first uCMDB-DDMi integration developed was based on discovery and indeed required a DDM Probe. The integration jobs were working with DDMi's MySQL DB directly. But after that we introduced the new uCMDB-DDMi integration that is based on Federation Adapter. And this is the integration you are supposed to use. The old one is not being updated/enhanced.
