Discovery Issue in UCMDB: Host/Network Devices

Hello All,

I have UCMDB V8.07. After discovering Host and Network Devices, I have duplicates of these in UCMDB. I am not sure why there are duplicates coming in. e.g One host is discovered by Host Connection by Shell & SNMP both,other host is dicovered by Host Connection By shELL and host connection by Shell. Same goes for the Network Devices.

This ends up giving me duplicates for a singe host.

Can anyone help here or any pointers for troubleshoting.

ThankYou

Re: Discovery Issue in UCMDB: Host/Network Devices

It appears to me you have a reconciliation issue. Which pattern did you run first, shell or SNMP?

Possibly the data gathered by SNMP differs from that gathered by shell.

Reconciliation takes place by comparing objects based on certain key attributes, like hostname, interface and IP address.

For some reason uCMDB treats the two objects as different hosts.

Could you list the attributes of the new objects here so we can have a looksee?

Re: Discovery Issue in UCMDB: Host/Network Devices

Thanks for your respone.

For the Network Devices both the duplicate CI are discovered by Host Connection by SNMP. For one of them the Host Key is the MAC Address and for the other one its displays the HOST SNMP SYs name.

I am not able to get the cause for them.The UCMDB is integrated with BAC and OMI.

Re: Discovery Issue in UCMDB: Host/Network Devices

The SNMP system name is one of the key identifiers. What you could try is to put the SNMP system name in the existing CI, discovered before SNMP, and see if the objects get reconciled (one ought to disappear).

Re: Discovery Issue in UCMDB: Host/Network Devices

I am not able to edit the Host Key value and put the SNMP name over there(using ITUM , its non -editable)

This is how  the attributes are occuring for the duplicate host.

                  host 1 ::Host 2
Hostname  ::abc :: abc
Host Key :: 00137F33D67 :: abc.abcgroup.com
Created By :: Host Connection By SNMP::Host Connection By SNMP
Create Time::Sun Feb 6::Mon Oct 3
Last Access Time ::Web OCt5::MonO Ct 3
Host SNMP Sys-Name::abc.abcgroup.com::abc.abcgroup.com

For the second/duplicate device the Host Key is updated by SNMP SYS name or IP_Default Domain.

ThankYou

Re: Discovery Issue in UCMDB: Host/Network Devices

Did you run host discovery by shell and snmp or only by snmp?
