For IP ranges that are designated as “client” they are designed not to work via icmp ping. These are for DHCP ranges that are captured via ARP cache reads and use the mac address rather than IP address. Hence, when you run ICMP ping job to discover the IP ranges, they will end with message “No live IP’s found in probe progress” Data Center IP Ranges work the same way DDMa did in earlier versions.
The main difference is in the way IP CIs will be populated. In case of Data-Center IP will be identified by IP plus domain info, in case of Client IP will be identified by MAC address.
The rule of thumb is to use Data-center IP range when you're planning to discover computers where IP address is stable (data-center servers). Client IP range is appropriate for desktops where IP address is changing contantly (due to dynamic IP addressing or VPN connection).
Hope this helps.
