CMDB 9.x and doc management

The documents constitute an important information component to ITIL related to item addressed in the CMDB: manuals and technical documents, contracts, forms, screenshot error, technical drawings, images of objects and locations, etc.

Is  CMDB 9.x able to relate a CI with a one or more documents (that are also CIs), and display them at request?

Thanks

D.

Re: CMDB 9.x and doc management

Hi, just wondering why you'd have document CIT's in uCMDB instead of including documents in SM records as per design. There's valid links between the SM records and uCMDB CIT's.

But indeed, if you have document CI's in uCMDB and if there's a valid link between infrastructure and the document CIT's, it's certainly possible to relate them. Have a look at the Contract CI type which comes out of the box, located in the root of the class model. You could perhaps model a documentation CI type, located at the same level, and create valid links between that and InfrastructureElement.

Re: CMDB 9.x and doc management

Hi, the customer doesn't have SM and would like to use CMDB to relate technical doc to infrastructure element.

Ok for model a documentation CI Type, but I think that GUI doesn't have capabilities for uploding and displaying document.

No the uploading is going to be tricky. You could put the documents on a webserver or fileshare and put a URL in a CIT attribute. So then when clicking that, the customer's browser would open it automatically client side.

Hi, thanks for tricky but  I think that doc management should be supported natively by a cmdb
