Is it possible to auto delete the older Incidents from SOM console

Dear Team,

As the max. limit for the number of Incidents visisble in SOM UI is 10,000

Is it possible to auto delete/archieve the older Incidents(Ex: 2 months old) ?

Moreover, Is it possible to supress the "Data Collection successful" Incident(which is Normal Priority) and are not required to log daily.

Thanks,Hari

Re: Is it possible to auto delete the older Incidents from SOM console

Hello Hari,

There is a way to delete or auto-archive Incidents within SOM 10.10.  This process is referred to as Auto trimming within the product.  The following information is within a training slide that I have from SOM 10.10.

  • The following property determines if the auto-trim traps feature is enabled.
    # Valid values are Disabled, TrimOnly, TrimAndArchive
    com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimSetting=TrimAndArchive
    Note: If “TrimAndArchive” property is set then older traps will get deleted from the database
    and archived under the folder %OvDataDir%\tmp as a gzip file with the name like incidentArchive.*.csv.gz
  • The following property determines when to start the auto-trim process. This is specified as a
    percentage of com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapMaxStoreLimit
    com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimStartPercentage=50
  • The following property determines how many traps to trim when auto-trim determines it is time to start
    the auto-trim process. This is specified as a percentage of com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapMaxStoreLimit
    com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimPercentageToDelete=25

I hope that this informatoin is helpful.

Regards,

Mark

Re: Is it possible to auto delete the older Incidents from SOM console

Hello Hari,

I failed to add the following information, which was on a different slide.

User can enable, disable and configure auto-trim traps functionality by defining auto-trim properties in
a .properties file and place it under
%OvDataDir%\shared\nnm\conf\props

In looking within that directory, there is the nms-jboss.properties file that has references to these parameters.  You would add the settings to this file and then you would need to stop and restart SOMJBOSS for the changes to take effect.

I hope that this helps.

Regards,

Mark

Re: Is it possible to auto delete the older Incidents from SOM console

Hello Mark, Thanks for your reply.

In the nms-jboss.properties file under %OvDataDir%\shared\nnm\conf\props directory, I found the below entry related to your suggestion. All I need to do is un-comment(need to remove "!" mark also ?) the below theree entries and start SOMJBOSS right ?

com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimSetting=TrimAndArchive

com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimStartPercentage=50

com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimPercentageToDelete=25

It looks the changes will affect to only SNMP traps, I disabled "Datacollection success" notification incident under Configuration>Management event configurations, But again these incidents are being logged in the console... Please advice.

******************************************************nms-jboss.properties file**************************************************************

# The following property determines if the auto-trim traps feature is enabled.
# The auto-trim traps functionality, if enabled, will be triggered when the number
# of traps in the database exceeds com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimStartPercentage

#!com.hp.nnm.events.snmpTrapAutoTrimSetting=Disabled

Re: Is it possible to auto delete the older Incidents from SOM console

Hello Hari,

Yes, you uncomment an entry by removing the #!.  At the top of the file you will see the following entry:

# All properties that are not being customized must be commented out using
# with #!

Modifying those three parameters and restarting the SOMJBOSS will make those settings take effect.

You are correct in that disabling the "Datacollection Successful' setting should disable Incidents related to a successful datacollection.  When I disabled it, it stopped sending the event to the Incident Browser.  I received the failed messages but not the successful message.

Mark
