We are doing the preliminary steps to get Storage Essentials installed at our site. One of the questions from HP is the firmware version of the FCA2257P HBAs in our Sun V440s. We're running Solaris 8 and SecurePath to an old EVA5K. Spmgr does not show firmware rev. It does show up in the messages file at boot time but these boxes haven't been rebooted in 9 months and the relevant messages file has long since shuffled off. We were told to run 'hbatest' but this apparently requires more configuration steps than simply running the executable.
Does anyone know a simple, nondestructive way to query the HBA under Solaris 8 ??
thanks, Don M.

Re: How to read firmware version in FCA2257P HBA ??
Open your SAN Switch gui and look at the name server. One of the fields lists the driver and bios versions.
There should also be a script you can run to "check" and/or "upgrade" the bios.
HBA utilities also should be able to tell you the bios version. (SANSurfer for QLogic/ HBAnywhere for Emulex). Not sure if there is a version for SUN... should be.. or some version for unix that should work.
