Hi Dieter, Thanks for your reply. Yes, SMI-S agent is installed on BNA, Do we need to start it explicitly before starting discovery from SOM ? I believe it uses default https port 5989. I tried using default port, 443 and 8043(which was configured as https during SOM installation). But the discovery was not successful, Attached discovery logs, Could you check and suggest please.
If you have changed the port number on BNA to anything other than 5989, you need to enter that in SOM during discovery. For your example, it will be https://<ip address of BNA>:443 . Include both protocol(https) and port(443) for non-default configurations.
Hi Vijay, Dieter Thanks for your reply. When I use both protocol(https) and new port, It discovered switches. But in the Inventory-Switches TAB, I could see collection status of each switch in the 'virtual switch' section only. 'Physical switch' section is not updated with collection status. Do I need to select each physical switch and right click on it to 'start collection' ?
this is by design. Each physical switch exposes itself as virtual switch and data collection is only done against ' virtual model'. Exception would be if you e.g. have a Switch in AG Mode. Data Collection is triggered by default once a day, can be modified.
Hello Dieter, Thank you... got it. I discovered Brocade switches in my environment and it used default data collection policy. I will proceed to create a monitoring group then assign a monitoring policy to switch nodegroup to collect specific data. Is there anything else that I can do to collect data from switches ? Is there anything benifit If I create a new data collection policy ? (I hope monitoring policy and data collection policy both are different) - please suggest.
Data Collection Policy is used to collect inventory, configuration and topology information from the managed devices.
Monitoring Policy is to collect performance information from the managed devices. You can double click a collector under Configuration-> Monitoring Policies -> Collectors tab to look at what metrics are collected.
