It depends on how your organization applies the ITIL framework.

In ITIL v3, Event Management was added to interface with other areas such as Incident Management.

Usually, an Incident is considered the interruption of a service. An Event could be an informational occurrence, a warning or alert, or a critical event which normally leads to an Incident being raised.
