sd 4.5 DB rule - Update data by external program

Hello,
How can I create DB rule and use some external program for updating data? There is one kind of Action (update data by external system), but I don't know, how to use it. There is only field "URL". Can I use some local program (perl script)? How? How can I work with input and output of script? Thank you very much for any help...

Re: sd 4.5 DB rule - Update data by external program

hello,

this is an http request. Your external server must be able to receive http requests and will answer to the OVSD server. The values in the answer will be filled in in the fields you define in your rule.

Other way to update data from external system is that you use the command exec action and call a script with a dataexchange task that you predefined (with possible delta processing)

A program you designed that has some API's embedded in, agian you need to call this with the command exec action.

If data you need to import is only one record, you can use the sd_event command, that the external program needs to start and feed.

Thank you Steven,
I will use external command and sd_event. Is sd_event a part of standard installation or where can I find it?

Re: sd 4.5 DB rule - Update data by external program

Hi there,

sd_event is documented in the Data Exchange Guide (Chapter 5 of the 4.5 guide and chapter 2 of the version 5 guide).

Basically you need to set up an import mapping for the fields you want take in and then you use the mappings you have set up in the command line to set the values.

Hope this helps
