junk characters found in SMS alerts

Hi,

i am using OVSD 4.5 SP18. Have configured DB rule to trigger alerts on the SMS and found that there are set of junk characters received along with actual message thus forming two SMS alerts where it should have sent one alert.

following is the sample SMS alert being received on the mobile:

First sms message delivered is:

ServiceDesk@xyz.com
------_=_Nextpart_000_01COB2DF.DE9D0F20 incident EVT-102 has been generated. Description: SMXPDL2 is failed ------_=_NextPart

second SMS message delivered is :

<..Bd>t_000_01COB2DF.DE9DOF20--

i tried all the following possibilities available under Admin Console --> System --> Email
1) enabled / disabled Base 64 encoding
2) enabled / disabled Encoding
3) Set Character Set to UTF-8

still the alert is sent in the same format.

how do i configure ovsd to send only the message and not the junk characters?

Note: The SMS gateway that is being used is a freeware from Mercury.

appreciate your replies.

thanks in advance

Re: junk characters found in SMS alerts

hi!

Congrats for your new Hat!!!!

01. Have you re-directed the output to a .txt file and verified the outout ?

02. In the .txt file, if there are no extra character, you need to look at the MODEM configuration.

03. Most of the GMS MODEMS will have an .INI file, where you sent the SMS format, and other configuration. You need to change the SMS format. It may be in e-mail or some other format. Change that to text.

HTH

Re: junk characters found in SMS alerts

hi!

Then it must be the settings of the MODEM. Do you have an INI file where you can find similer configurations :

Active=True
Model=Modem
ModemSubType=2
Types=TextPager,InteractiveTextPager
Modem=[Modem.SiemensTC35_GSM]
Dev=com1
Speed=1920

Are you using a wireless MODEM ?

PS: Thanks for the points, if any.
