can not restore SD5.1 database on a new server

I have SD 5.1_patch7 installed on SQL 2000 running and everything is fine.
i deattached my db. took a backup from the .mdf and .ldf files.
when i try to restore this db on a new server, and change the owner of the db to be a valid SQL account.
when i try to start the services using ovc-start, the object server never give the status running..always initializing,
the server monitor doesnt see that there is a server installed.
the client can not connect to the server.
how can i solve this?

Re: can not restore SD5.1 database on a new server

Hi,

Does the Test Connection works OK in the Server Setings Editor?

Since you are using MS SQL, check that your restored DB has correct ownership, sometimes when you restore SQL DB into new environment the DB ownership needs to be restored.

Look in the logfiles for an error like this:
Invalid object name 'ifc_modules'

The server monitor does not start because ovobs service is not running yet...

yes the server connection in the server settings succeed. the problem is with the client settings...it never connects to the server.
always giving the message: " cannot connect to localhost; error connecting to through port :30999"

i did change the owner of the database to a valid SQL account.

Re: can not restore SD5.1 database on a new server

Hi

Was the server running, clients connected when you took the backup? The connected servers and users are stored in the database and they will therefore be present when you restore it.

On SD4.5 it was wise to clear the rep_sessions and rep_servers tables - have a look if there are similar tables in SD51 and what values are stored in them.

Cheers

Re: can not restore SD5.1 database on a new server

the rep_session and rep_servers table are empty. No clients were connected during the backup.

i even tried installing 2 servers on 2 virtual machines...both with same configuration"IP, Name,..." they are copy of each other.
once u take the database of the first server and attach it and try to run it on the second server this problem appears.."object server remains initializing.."
i almost compared the database tables one by one...there is not difference.
can please someone help me with this??

amralesawy,

Are you using the same application server? Is there any possibility that the app server and database are not at the same patch level? We had nearly the exact same symptoms and thats what it ended up being for us.
