Upgrade to Windows 2003

My company is starting the process of upgradeing a lot of our servers to 2003. They want to perform an upgrade on the Service Desk server. Their plan is to do a straight upgrade process from Server 2000 to Server 2003. Does anyone see any problems with this?

Re: Upgrade to Windows 2003

Hi,

There shouldn't be any problem. 2003 server security features may cause problems, so it's better to turn off sp1 firewall etc. To be sure, take a database and customized service pages / web console pages (if any) backups before upgrade. If you have database backup, you can bring sd to same state easily on a windows machine even if it's installed from scratch.

Re: Upgrade to Windows 2003

hi!

We are on Windows 2003. But we did a complete new installation of OS and connected to the same database.

But, to run the setup file, you need the patch from HP, since the default setup file will not work on Windows 2003.

Re: Upgrade to Windows 2003

We are actually pulling one of the Drives in the server to act as a backup. But there will be a backup of the server run before the upgrade is started. The Database is actually on a different server so we will be ok in that aspect. Thanks.

Re: Upgrade to Windows 2003

One other issue, in 2003 wbem odbc functionality is lost so if you have any integration with ovow you will break them. There is a new integration download for 2003.

As far as a direct upgrade, never tried it. I'd be curious to know how it goes for you though. :)

good luck.

Re: Upgrade to Windows 2003

hi!!!

Frgot to mention...we are experiencing a great perfomance boost after moving to 2003.

We configured NLB( we have two SD Servers and the user connectets to a virtul IP. When ever one server is down, or the load is more, the other server will take over. Since bothe the server are on differnet rack, posibility of SD going down is very very rare.)

Pls let me know, if you need more info about this.
