Currently we have service desk 4.5 service pack 13 and are trying to upgrade straight to service desk 5.0. We are aware of the recommended upgrade route of 4.5 to 5.1, but are inquiring for information about this. Our plan is to install 5.0, link it to a copy of our 4.5 SQL data base and force the database to be upgraded. This is not recommended, but is it possible or are we wasting time.
My understanding is that the upgrade is impossible rather than "not recommended" (meaning that H-P will not provide any tools to do it, and will not support any attempt to do it, nor support the result). The announced upgrade path is from 4.5 (SP17 or lower) to 5.1.
While we are on the subject, I have heard that 5.2 has been abandoned, and that users of 4.5 SP18 or higher will have to wait until 2008, after the fusion of OVSD and Peregrine. Can anyone confirm this?
