We want to be able to track a person/s time against a projeect in the service desk ( I know there are other tools out there but we want to keep it all in one place) There is start/end date actuals etc. i need to have a number of people working on a pproject keep track of what they are doing and how long it takes for capilising purposes.
As Sree said - use the Time Spent field in the history log. Get them to log a user entry each day or each time they do something, with the time spent populated. Then a Crystal report or other report can extract that data.
Alternatively set up two custom number fields:
Total Time Spent (Mins): Read only all roles My Time Spent (Mins): All can update
then a DB rule: If My Time Spent is not empty, then: Total Time Spent = Total Time Spent + My Time Spent; My Time Spent = make empty;
And Audit both these to track who changed each. This disadvantage of the latter approach is that users can't correct times or see their own total time easily. But they don't have to create history line. Also, if you wish, you can make My Time Spent mandatory so that anytime anyone updates the Project records they must enter time.
