To send Banner using SD

Hi,

I came to know that we can send banners using SD.

Scenario: I want to send a banner to the engineer who will handle the Change ticket before 5 minutes of PLANNED START.

I used Command Execution option but i am not sure about "Command line" and "Parameters"

I attached screen shot, Please help me to complete this rule...

Re: To send Banner using SD

Hello Kumar,

Did you refer to the administrator's guide? It has an example of running banner.

Something else: Make sure that at the target machine service desk agent is running and it is the same SP version as the server. Also make sure that the port 50998 of the target machine is accessible from application server.

One other thing.

If it keeps failing, copy banner.exe to root of C: on workstation you want banner to run on, change command line in rule and try again. I've noticed that sometimes the command line is too long for OVSD.

Re: To send Banner using SD

Hello Kumar,

The banner.exe is installed with agent not with client. You can find it in %AGENTINSTALLDIR%\bin (usually C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\service desk 4.5\agent\bin)

Re: To send Banner using SD

Hi George,

I am able to telnet the application server on port 50998 from client but i am unable to telnet the client from the server on that port.

Will this be a problem.

Please advice.

Re: To send Banner using SD

Yes - the server must be able to initiate connection to agent - check firewall rules.

Re: To send Banner using SD

Hi,

I have re-installed Agent and JRE.

Now i am able to telnet the client from the server.

I read the installation guide. in that its mentioned that "
click Log On As: System
Account and select the Allow Service to Interact with Desktop"

Please let me know where can i get this option.....

Re: To send Banner using SD

This option is under windows services in control panel. The agent runs as a windows service and one option for services is to allow them to interact with the desktop. If this is not checked the banner when called from the agent service wont be allowed to show itself on the desktop.
