Service Desk 4.5 & Windows 2003

I have recently installed SD 4.5 on Windows 2003 and am having problems connecting to the SQL server database to set SD up.

I have windows 2003 SP1 and SQL server 2000 with no SPs as far as I can tell.
Java Version 1.3.1_03

The error I get testing the connection from the db configuration wizard is :

Failed to open connection to service desk data.
java.io.InterruptedIOException: Receive timed out

I know the settings are correct ie username / password, instance etc, I know the service is running on port 1433 as I've tested with telnet. I have no firewall and SD and SQL are on the same server anyway.

I am guessing this is a SQL patch issue or something like that.

Any ideas you have are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Simon

Re: Service Desk 4.5 & Windows 2003

Simon,

There's a patch for the app server to make it compatible with Windows 2003, which might be related to your issue. I've attached a copy, or you can look up SDSK_00036 in the HP patches database if you prefer.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,

Re: Service Desk 4.5 & Windows 2003

Hi,

I don't think it's about that patch. You cannot install sd on windows 2003 without applying it. I see you've installed sd, and when configuring database, you get the error. SP1 adds some security enhancements, may be that's the reason. Check if windows firewall service is running, and you need to define rules in Local Security Policy-> IP Security Policies On Local Computer

You don't have to fill instance and host fields if database is on the same machine, just fill user, pass, port.

Apply SQL 2000 SP4 to your sql server.

Re: Service Desk 4.5 & Windows 2003

Hi Guys,

Thanks Jason - re-appying SP4 for SQL 2000 now lets the connection test ok but then when I go to upgrade the SQL DB I get the following error :

java.sql.SQLException:[SERVER] invalid object name 'ifc_system'

I have checked for refs to this messaage and can confirm I am using a specific service desk user not SA who does have the correct permissions.

I know also this should be the first table opened by the SD process.

Any further ideas ?

Thanks

Try running sd_dbconfwizard with the parameter -internal and then choose cehck database. It might be more clues as to the problem.
