Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

I am running OVSD 4.5 with SP 21.

Users in the our enviornment log calls using Service Pages but as attachements are not supported through Service Pages, I want users to send attachements through email once the call has been logged through SP.

Is it possible for users to use the "Update" and attach the attachments through email and update the call logged from Web?

Please Help.....

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Badri,
Couple of questions?
Is attachments supported on your system now?
Can you send attachments using New command?
If answer is Yes to any of the above questions, it can easily be done.

Just go to Admin Console -> System Panel -> Email and select Email Commands tab.

Open Update command and check 'Insert Attachments Allowed'.

If answer is No to first question, then it needs lot of work.

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Hi Alok,

Thanks for your quick response...

Yes, All pre-requisites are configured and I can send attachments from New Command. But I am facing some issue when attachments are sent usinf the Update command.

My requirements is that end-users will log calls from the web (SP) and if they have got to send attachements then they will send it through email using the "Update" command. But for some reason the Update does not seem to work..

Any expert comments on this ???

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Badri,
If you already did what I told in 2nd last line of my previous reply, I am not sure why it is not working.

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Badri,
I wasn't looking at the forum today.

Can you please attach the snap shot of Update command settings.

For this go to Admin Console->System Panel->Email->E-mail Commands.

Double click on Update and send the snapshot.

Also check here if Access Level is selected as 'Unavailable'

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Alok,

Please find the screenshot attached as requested.

Currently i have set the access level for Update command as "only existing persons with accounts" instead of "unavailable", will this be an issue?

Cheers!!

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

According to your log, it tried to update call 9 but it could not find any valid FIELD NAMES like description, information and etc. What it found in the body of your email to update call 9 was this:

: Invalid field name
I am not sure whether you put that specifically in the body of the email or it got translated by your Lotus server. check the admin guide at page 242 for example of what the update email should look like.

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Hello Jas,

I am aware of the content that needs to go into the body of the email while Updating the record using email. But i have tried all of those as described on the admin guide but it still fails.

So i am attaching the screenshots and email if what i am doing for your reference. Please review the same give your expert comments.

Cheers!!!

Solution

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

From your logs, it looks like it still can't recognise the field name in the body of the email due to all those html tags.
Tried it without the attachment to confirm whether that's the cause of the issue and also try this:
Not only case sentitive, the *(char) sign must be added in front of BEGIN and END too.

*BEGIN

Message Body

*END

Enclosed your field names within the *BEGIN and *END and see if this workaround works for you.

Re: Send attachment through Email using "Update" command

Hello Jas and Alok,

Thanks for all the help and support.

The problem was with the html tags as we were using the webmail (web-client) not the thick client.

Now its working :-)

Cheers !!!
