SD5.1 - database configuration wizard

In SD4.5 it is possible to create new databases using the database configuration wizard.

I can see that it is possible to change between databases in SD5.1, but I have not been to find a database configuration tool. Does such a tool exist?

Re: SD5.1 - database configuration wizard

Hi there,

No - there is no database configuration tool in version 5.

When you install a SP, all the database upgrades are done for you - or this is what is supposed to happen.

For the record, we (Fox IT) find the lack of DB configuartion wizard quite a challenge as it made it fairly simple for us keep several DBs and upgrade them as we needed.

Hope this helps

Re: SD5.1 - database configuration wizard

Up until now I have just made a copy of the initial database and used this to create new databases.
However if a patch updates the database I can only get one of my databases updated. How do you get the rest of your databases updated?

Re: SD5.1 - database configuration wizard

Hi there,

The DB that is updated is the one that is currently the default.

The only way we have found of updating the other DBs is to use a "spare" machine where we install SD, point it at the DB we want to upgrade, upgrade the SD (which upgrades the DB) and then throw away the SD installation. It is highly unsatisfactory but not found any other way.

Re: SD5.1 - database configuration wizard

That was just what I feared.

I guess I will use a virtual machine with snapshot capability which will ease the process.

Thank you for your answers.
