Re: OVSD 4.5 Service pack 18 is released!!!

Just an FYI I received from HP concerning SP18 and the migration path to 5.1.

------------------

Dear customers,

This note is to inform you that the upgrade from Service Desk 4.5 to
Service Desk 5.1 will be supported for Service Pack 17 only. If you run
a Service Pack released before Service Pack 17, we ask you to include
Service Pack 17 as an intermediary step in your migration path. Doing
so, you will be able to benefit from the migration tool and procedures
we provide and which are designed to work with Service Pack 17 only.

If you intend to upgrade to Service Desk 5.1, please do not plan to
install any Service Desk 4.5 Service Pack beyond Service Pack 17. The
migration tools and procedures are not supported for Service Packs
beyond Service Pack 17.

You should install Service Pack 18 and beyond only if you do not intend
to upgrade to Service Desk 5.1. A further Service Desk 5.x release will
allow you to upgrade from Service Desk 4.5 Service Pack 18 as well as a
few other subsequent Service Packs. The date of this release will be
communicated later this year.

Best regards.
The Service Desk Product Management.

Re: OVSD 4.5 Service pack 18 is released!!!

Great news but as we are planning to upgrade to 5.1, we apparently cannot install this SP. Can someone confirm me that the functionalities in SP18 for 4.5 (unlimited custom fields, dynamic CI forms, ...) will then also be available in SD version 5.1 ?

Re: OVSD 4.5 Service pack 18 is released!!!

If anyone gets firm information about:

- whether the new functionality in SP 18 will really be in 5.2
- when 5.2 should be released
- or at least when the release date will be announced ("by the end of 2006" is not acceptable for planning purposes)

please post that information here.

Re: OVSD 4.5 Service pack 18 is released!!!

Though it is quite annoying, it's not real problem at least to us. Service Desk 5 released about on Jan 2006 and unless HP surprise us I don't expect that 5.1 will see the sun light before fall this year. In any case it is really dangerous to use a newly released version just after the release and besides that, upgrading even 4.5 SP17 to 5.1 is a very big project.

I'm expecting upgrading to 5.x in 2007 thus upgrading right now to SP18 is not really a problem :)

I would like of course to have an official answer from HP but even then, how can anyone be sure? Don't forget that SD5 was expected for three years!
