Naming standard for views SD 4.5?

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good naming standard for views?

Hi there,

Naming conventions always depend on what you whish to easily recognize or find. Development items, Business items?

Re: Naming standard for views SD 4.5?

Hi Michael,

Generally I would suggest using names which clearly state what the view is used for and which will be easy to find in a drop down list. For example:

All SCs
Open SCs (mine)
OR
My open SCs

Open SCs (my group)
OR
My group open SCs

Hope this helps

Well I was perhaps a bit vague here :-) and it's no easy answer to this one anyway.

Just wanted to know how others have solved this.

Thanks,

Re: Naming standard for views SD 4.5?

Hi Michael,
For View that correspond to KPI's I prefix them with KPI:XXXXXXX.
For view that are meant for export to do reports they're Prefixed RPT:XXXXXXXX.

I realy depends on the needs. Personaly I prefer to prefix views with Trigram to easily identify them... Giving them just a topic is not enough for me. But everybody is free to do the way he wants.

Re: Naming standard for views SD 4.5?

Michael,

Two hints:

For certain cases, we have found it useful to prefix the view name with a number, or even a decimal number "1.1 Open Calls; 1.2 Open Calls blah blah, 1.3 etc." This helps putting the views in an order that is useful for the users.

In some cases, we create table or tree views that are only used in the context of explorer views. In order to simplify the administration of these views, we append " - table" or " - tree" to the name of the explorer view in order to show that the table or tree view does NOT need to be assigned to a role, and that it is closely related to the explorer view with the similar name.

Re: Naming standard for views SD 4.5?

Hi Michael, I tend to use:
For events:
All xxx for open+Closed;
Open xxx for everything except closed;
Active xxx which means everything except Closed and Completed, if we need these.

For Person/Org:
Active xxx
Inactive xxx
All xxx

And if nexessary include the word "tree" or "explorer" - eg if have the same view name for a table and an explorer view.

I like the idea of numbering them to force the order. Would also help if answering questions about global views. Might try that.
