Moving data from one field to another

Hi,

We use OVSD 4.5 with SP 18.
We want to update the Name 1 field in the CMDB to be identical with the Search Code. Descriptions that are currently in the Name 1 field should be moved to the Descriptive Name field. I know that moving forward we can set this up with a rule. However what is the best way to update existing CIs?

Solution

Re: Moving data from one field to another

Hi Rita,

2 options,

1) Export out the current details if you can or save them to a spreadsheet.
Set up a new field called name1 and set that value to be the same as the searchsoce in the spreadsheet - use a formula where the cell with the searchcode will equal the cell name1

Import the data and use the import mappings to set the name 1 value

2) Set a DB rule to update name 1 to the value of the searchcode. Set a trigger to run the rule e.g. when a checkbox is ticked. Then do an update all against that trigger to kick in the DB rule - update all to set the check box to true.

Re: Moving data from one field to another

The quickest way is to execude directly in DB:
update itsm_configuration_items set cit_name1=cit_searchcode

Re: Moving data from one field to another

Mark,
Thank you. I used your second option and got a good result.

Roman,
If we touch the database then it will void our HP support.

Thank you both. Rita

It is hard to vie with Mark. Of course his solution is great $), I`ve just tried to offer another one.
