Mass installation of Service desk 5.1

We are in the process of installing service desk 5.1 but wish to use Microsoft SMS to mass uninstall the former hp openview service desk 4.5 and mass install service desk 5.1.
Can a Service desk 5.1 msi be created for this purpose?

Re: Mass installation of Service desk 5.1

We use SD4.5 and we stayed on this as I havent heard a good word said about SD5.1

You may be best sticking with what you have now and move to SM7(due for release in December this year) next year.

Re: Mass installation of Service desk 5.1

Hi guys,
thanks for your input. From what I am hearing it seems to be a better plan to move on from SD Service Pack13 on to Service pack20+ rather than 5.1?
But if I am to sell this to management, I need to know what additional functionality is added from service pack 13 to 20+. Do we get additional reporting functionality? Better performance? Custom reports?

Basicly whats the difference between 4.5 (sp13) and 4.5(sp20+) in regards to functionality?

Re: Mass installation of Service desk 5.1

Theres alot more functionality available, ideally you should upgrade to SP23, it is the latest service pack and is the pack required to then migrate to SM7.

To find out about the functionality available you will need to look at the release notes for each service pack - have a look on:

Re: Mass installation of Service desk 5.1

Hi there,

Just to add my point of view: we (fox it) assist companies to implement HPSD and from our experiences with version 5, we are recommedning that unless you are completely ready to use the SLM module 4.5 (SP23) is a signficantly better system as it is more reliable, less complicated and uses fewer resources.

Just to add to what Jay said: if you expand any SP from 20 onwards, there is a pdf in the doc folder called sd45_sp20_addendum_en.pdf which documents all the enhancements added upto SP20.

As it is 14Mb I cannot attach it but it is easier to read than each readme file.

Thank you all for your help, this 5.1 business seems to be a plane crash in the making.
Thanks for the advanced warnings.

Re: Mass installation of Service desk 5.1

hi there,

I see you have only assigned points 1 of 62 times for your questions; it is usual to give points when people try and help (and please note this does not mean I expect you to assign 10 points to my response!)

Point taken Ruth, will do much better from now on.
Honestly I didn't think that the point system mattered to so many.

But seriously, it does help people to assess the quality of the advice
