Log files in user profiles

A log file is created for SD users at C:\Documents and Settings\user.name\Application Data\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\Service Desk\log

Is there a way of setting this to be limited to a certain size? Heavy users of SD have log files which are 300 – 400 MB!!

Or perhaps we can change where its stored?

Re: Log files in user profiles

Hi Sam,
By the folder name, I can see you are using 4.5.

There are no facilities in 4.5 for this, you have to do it for yourself: for example, a script simialr to:

@cd relevant folder
@del logclient-7.txt
@ren logclient-6.txt logclient-7.txt
@ren logclient-5.txt logclient-6.txt
@ren logclient-4.txt logclient-5.txt
@ren logclient-3.txt logclient-4.txt
@ren logclient-2.txt logclient-3.txt
@ren logclient-1.txt logclient-2.txt
@ren logclient.txt logclient-1.txt

Such a script would keep the last 7 log files but you would need to find a way of ensuring all your machines ran it.

Hope this helps, Ruth

Hi Sam,

out of interest what is being logged in the client log files. usually they should not be this big.

Re: Log files in user profiles

Do you have the rule manager switched on in from the admin console? If so, you are writing UI rules to the client log files which can fill them up quickly.

Disable rule debug and then declide how to handle the users log files. Maybe write a logon script or policy to rename the file or delete it but this requires the OVSD client to be closed at the time.
