Re: Join multiple servers

Hi,

it allows you to have more that one application server running. This is a crude form of loadbalancing when used with the weight and failover when one application server is unavailable users can connect to the other one seamlessly

Re: Join multiple servers

Hi Ruth,

In what situations should I use this option ticked, and in what situations should I use this option unticked ?

Thanks

Solution

Re: Join multiple servers

Hi,

if you want failover have more than one app server with the option ticked.

It allows users to connect to different app servers all of which connect to the same Database. Using the weights helps spread the load os connecting clients.

Re: Join multiple servers

One more question...

In case of having 4 application servers, 2 of them for one group of users, and the other 2 for other group, how can I define the Join Multiple Servers field, for load balancing purposes ?

thanks

Re: Join multiple servers

Ah,

thats what i meant by a kind of load balancing system. it is very basic and you cannot seperate the servers for different areas.

You can set folders within the admin console to create divisions between user groups.

Re: Join multiple servers

hello

you can use in each account which server you need to connect to, I think that is what you need for you architecture.

Re: Join multiple servers

Hi Fep,

You can use load balancing by setting the weight for each server - if you set the weight of 1 double that of the other it will accept twice as many client connections.

You can set a client to connect to any of the servers and when a client attempts to connect HPSD will select the one which achieves a load balance - not necessarily the one you specified in client settings.

To accept clients you must also set the "accept clients" box - some large users leave one server with this clear and use it for data imports.

One last point, you can see which actual server IS being used by hovering over the icon in the bottom left corner with your mouse.

Hope this all helps, Ruth

Re: Join multiple servers

Hi Fep,

You set this on each client machine by Start>Programs>hp OpenView service desk 4.5>client>Client accounts and specify the server name when you add or modify an account.

But as I said before, if you have multiple servers, when the client connects HPSD will decide which server is actually used.

Hope this helps, Ruth
