Re: Installing SD 5.0: What is "instance"??????

hi,

This field shows the name of the database server instance. In the case of
a server connection to an Oracle database the instance field will display
the servername, port number and sid (Oracle instance identifier) in the

form servername:port:sid. A SQL Server database may show only the
server name.

Re: Installing SD 5.0: What is "instance"??????

Greetings,

First question: what is your database software: SQL or Oracle ? Both systems use the same notation to say the "name" of your servicedesk database. Better you call your dba (database administrator).
Hope it helps,

Re: Installing SD 5.0: What is "instance"??????

I'm using SD5 SP1 with SQL Server 2000 and I set my DB Server using the address (IP or DNS name), plus the correct Port. I don't fill the field INSTANCE. Actually, if I fill that field (with the correct instance value), I can't get a connection... Without any info, SD connects ok with SQL Server.
