This field shows the name of the database server instance. In the case of a server connection to an Oracle database the instance field will display the servername, port number and sid (Oracle instance identifier) in the Reviewing the Server Status Application Server Status Console Chapter 1 39 form servername:port:sid. A SQL Server database may show only the server name.
First question: what is your database software: SQL or Oracle ? Both systems use the same notation to say the "name" of your servicedesk database. Better you call your dba (database administrator). Hope it helps, Rubem
I'm using SD5 SP1 with SQL Server 2000 and I set my DB Server using the address (IP or DNS name), plus the correct Port. I don't fill the field INSTANCE. Actually, if I fill that field (with the correct instance value), I can't get a connection... Without any info, SD connects ok with SQL Server.
