Inbound email

I am able to recieve inbound email and create a ticket in SD when I send from inside my company firewall or exchange but when I send one from outside the firewall or exchange the email will not reach Service Desk. I can send an email to my internal email address and forward to SD and this works fine but I really need to send from external sources direct into SD.

Any thoughts on how I can overcome this problem?

If You want to create a ticket using any mail whether sender is defined in sd persons or not, then you have to edit admin console -> system panel -> Email -> Email Commands -> New and select unrestricted.

If the problem is that your mails from outsite the company cannot reach service desk machine, you have to define a smtp connector in your exchange server contains for address space.
