How to populate parent CI list into change form

I am trying to build a customized form so that when users fill out a change request using this form, all the parent CIs can be automatically populated somewhere (information field, for example) when CI field is filled out. Has anyone done somthing similar? I have played around with UI rule without any luck. Thanks,

Re: How to populate parent CI list into change form

Hello,

I'm afraid Jim that you cannot do it by the means of service desk alone. The only thing I can think is to use "Data update from external system" using CI as parameter, then call an external web page that returns CI's parents to Change information.

Re: How to populate parent CI list into change form

Hi Jim,

I cannot see any way to do this automatically but if you set up an OverView action to show related CIs then you can drag and drop from there to a field on the Change.

You could then have a UI rule which did this overview action as soon as the CI was filled in.

Hope this helps and if you wnat screen shots etc just ask.

Thanks to both George and Ruth. Sounds like what Ruth suggested can all be done within SD without other utilities involved. Can Ruth post some screenshots to elaborate a little bit more? Thanks a lot! I will assign points soon.

Hello,

Ruth, how can you display CI relations with overview actions? Sets are not supported on overview actions.

Re: How to populate parent CI list into change form

Hi there,

Sorry - a typo - I meant to say Smart action. Set up a smart action using sd_dataform using George's relationship trick (see http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=808712 )

sd_dataform -ListAlways "Configuration Item" -v "Parent CIs.CI Parent=CI name"

and then you will find you can drag and drop from the window displayed to the field you want.

Hope this helps
