How to disable logons to HP OVSD 4.5 during maintenance

Hi There;

This is probably a very simple question but how do you stop people from logging into HP OVSD 4.5 SP 21 when you are trying to do maintenance? Is there an easier way than individually blocking each service account? What does the Accept Client Connections setting do on the Active Application Servers window in System\Security\Audit option? Is this a way of blocking users/pc's from connecting to the application? Please help. Couldn't find this in the administrator's guide either. Thanks.

Re: How to disable logons to HP OVSD 4.5 during maintenance

Hi David,

That option is for setting an application server to be dedicated for integrations (such as LDAP/DataExchange imports, serving WebConsole or Service Pages, web-api).

It will block all clients from connecting to the server, including system account logon from the server box itself.

What I like to do is:
- Notify users and have users log out.
- Mark sessions for removal (for users who did not log out)
- Use 'Update All' feature to block user accounts except System.

Hope that helps. Points for the suggestion are welcome!

Thanks Pike!

I was wondering about the blocking of accounts. If that's the way to do it, then we will have to try that next time.

Appreciate that.

HI David,
I have wondered about this too.
What would be wrong with an unjoined SD server install with your SD client on your desktop. During maintenance, stop the app servers for general clients and then start your own instance.

Re: How to disable logons to HP OVSD 4.5 during maintenance

Hi,

My Options,
1.You can uncheck "Accept console clients"in case you are doing server/DB level maintanance

2.If you doing application level changes please do the below

write an update statement to update all the accounts except your account.

UPDATE rep_accounts SET acc_loginname = '__' + acc_loginname
WHERE acc_oid not in (.....)

You need to revert the same once your maintanance is over
update rep_accounts SET acc_loginname = substring(acc_loginname,3,20)
where acc_oid not in (...)

Hope this will help

Cheers!

As many other forum participants, I will advice against doing updates on the Service Desk database directly. It simply is not a good practice if you're working on a production system. Unfortunately, we IT Professionals usually come around when it's already too late.
