HPSD is extremly slow

We are still using HPSD 4.5 SP21 and it seems to be extremly slow...
It takes 2 mins to open a service call after you click on it :(

we have close to 23000 servicecalls and 15000 incidents.

Our clients are not content with archival....

I was wondering if somebody can help us optimise our environment.....

Thanks in advance

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Hi,

start with this thread

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1080815

Run the benchmark command to see if it can identify any issues. Post the benchmark results back if you want.

Do you have many scheduled tasks?

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Thanks for that tip...

I could not really understand the output.
I have attached the benchmark results.

Quite a good number of scheduled tasks (I can see close to 500 tasks)..

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Hi Praveena,

good news: Those results look good. The lover the number the better and the screen gives yu good and bad thresholds.

500 scheduled tasks is ok. 5000 would be something to look into.

Next steps. Have a look here

Also, where are you located and where is the application server and database located?
What version of java are you using?

Hi Praveena

What Database are you connecting to?
are the Database and the app server on the same box?

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Great to know that the our link was useful!!!!
:)

Your benchmark values are great, i don't think there is anything to worry about. I suspect the View and Form that you use.

Try the below :

Create a new forum, with minimum fields, and avoid any calculated fields. Then see the response.

Do the same with Views too, create one with less fields and calls.

Remove the cache from the client.

All the best, and thanks for the points, if any.

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Hey Praveena,

I really sympathize with you. Over here on version 5.1 our response time for damn near everything is just below 10 seconds. We're basically told one of two things:
1) Its just your imagination. Your users are spoiled brats.
2) 10 second response times is perfectly reasonable for your complexity and hardware and no, you can't have a performance guide to set your expectation by.

/spit

I hope you find a better solution than ours (re: "live with it"). You may be happy to know there are plenty of other tools out there with WAY better performance.

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Ashly,

I dont think that is the actual problem.
Even a form without any calculated fields it is taking time.

Probably we may have a database issue here

Even today we had a major escalation saying SD is v v slow :(

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Hi,

it could be a DB issue.

Where is you DB located in regards to where the application servers are and the clients that are slow.

Are they in the same country, region, on a LAN and the clients connecting by WAN?

Has this always been slow or has it just started recently?

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

Mark,

We are facing the issue for the past 3 months however off late its v v slow.

The database server and the mgt server are located in the same VLAN. I donâ t see a connectivity issue because we are not facing any issue with the other tools (same database, same VLAN).

SD is slow even when I open it on the mgt server it.

The client network is a different LAN.

Offshore (India) it takes 2 mins to open a new call.
Onsite (US) donâ t ask, its as good as not opening

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

I see. Do you have any errors in the serverlog.txt especially to do with DB tables? Is there enough space allocated for the DB to grow etc.

Do you have a support contract with HP to get them involved (I'm sure they would be involved if so).

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

We recently finished our HP Audit. We did not face any issues when HP was here....

We have raised a request and HP will be droping in soon.

I was just looking at ways to correct it by then

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

What about logging? I know one time all of our business rules spontaneously turned their logging on and that slowed us down.

Are any of your log file sizes getting super big?

How's your disk space on the app server?

What's your max selection on Service Call and Change views?

Re: HPSD is extremly slow

The log file is not too huge..... We dont let the log file grow beyond 10 MB.

Our query restriction is 3000 tickets for SCs and Incidents

Free space on the mgt server is 180 GB
