HP Openview Service Desk

I am wondering if anyone has a cookbook of instructions on how to create a copy of a production HP OpenView Service Desk environment (4.5). I would like to create a copy on a test server to test the 5.1 upgrade.

Re: HP Openview Service Desk

Hi Bob,

I don't have a cookbook. But I think the following steps should make it work!!

Backup the prod DB and restore it on to Test Server.
Clear the entries in the REP_SESSIONS and REP_SERVERS tables of the database.
Start the app server.
Modify attachment settings, email settings, license and any actions/rules/settings which use the prod server configuration.

Re: HP Openview Service Desk

Hi Ramprasad,

i have the similar requirements and have restored the Production DB on the test environment. What if I do not modify other values like the license etc etc on the test environment? what impact would I be resulting with this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: HP Openview Service Desk

Does that mean I should install 4.5 before I restore the data base?

Re: HP Openview Service Desk

licenses will work... but... be careful!!! :) You should contact HP and ask for costing on a dev license.

As for the last question, it doesn't matter as long as you have SQL set up on another box, u can then load the bits and go to town. All the settings (records, ui rules etc..) in OVSD reside in the db aside from the system settings.

sp levels need to be consistent.
errors are more than likely going to perm issues, so you may have to recreate the db account...

And, make sure you turn off 'join multiple' in the settings editor, better yet, keep the new system clear of the prod environment in an isolated environment...

Re: HP Openview Service Desk

hi Raman,

One more tip::: If ur test server is in the same LAN ( or have access to the mail server, which Production SD is using), better alter the E-mail server IP address...
and the same goes for the actions for SD agents

So, if ur using the same DB (of porduciton) use it another n/w
