Export problem with relations

Hi trying to create parent/child relation
in the ini file. Uses the example from the
Data Exchange Administratorâ s Guide page 74-75
And i got this error message in return?
Fatal Error
Section[CHILD]: SqlError: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Drive] Connection is busy with the result for some other host
ErrorNumber 5005

This is a little strange! If I remove the PARENT entrys in the file both classes works fine.
See entrys in the ini file that are attached

Re: Export problem with relations

I never understood the parent child techniques, but my belief is that you don't need to. Simply ensure that the parents all exist before importing children and/or relations as a seperate task. This seem so much simpler to me. Sometime just repeating an import is sufficient as the parents are at least created in the first pass and then can be related in the second pass. But perhaps I am lazy.

Re: Export problem with relations

Ok. But how do you build the parent/child relation afterwards?
Can you give me an example!

Re: Export problem with relations

Stefan, what's is your import mapping? If it is "Configuration Item" the DE won't work. Parent/child relations are to be imported as "CI component".

Re: Export problem with relations

Hi Geroge. Hmm yes it is two CI's that im trying to relate as parent and child.
The CI server N0xx is the parent and the CI cluster server N02xxx is the child.

What do you meens by Configuration component?

Re: Export problem with relations

Hello Stefan,

The attached picture is too small and I cannot see any details.

However it's apparent that you are trying to import parent child relation in incorrect way. You can't specify parent/child relation as attribute of configuration item because, well, it's not!

The proper import mapping for CIs, with free form relations and with parent/child relations must be split in three sub-import mappings.

One for importint the cis themselves
One for importing the parent/child relation
One for importing the free form relations.

Re: Export problem with relations

Hello. I think i understand. But how can i make the relation? This is the part that i dont find any information about.

The CI'a are alredy imported into the system.
What is missing is the relation parent child.

What do you meen by free form relations.

Filling stupid right now. ;-)

Re: Export problem with relations

Hello,

Then you need only to import parent/child relation. See the attached image for a sample.

Free form relations are relations that are not parent/child. See the online help.

Also it's a good idea to assign points to answers to your questions. Have a look at http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/helptips.do?#28
for more details.
