Category field greyed out

Despite the Category field in (servicecall, workorder, etc) is greyed out, you can access this field in a normal way. How is this possible?

It's just the way OVSD does this type of field. You can't type characters in the field (so it's greyed out) - you can only enter data by clicking the icon on the right of the field and selecting a value from the resulting window.

Other fields like Caller or CI allow you to either enter part or all of a search code directly OR use the lookup icon.

It is a bit confusing because it looks like Category is read only....just the way the designers have done it.
