CI import problem using xml file

Hi Experts,

I'm trying to import a list of CI's from a xml file. It gives the following error.

Exited code: -1
Output:The file provided is
not a valid CIM file for Data Exchange. Unexpected
root element 'CI' was found

I've checked the import mappings, and the same fileds has been given in xml file also.

Can anyone tell me what does OVSD expect as the 'root element' in XML input ? It will be nice if someone can poste a sample CI import xml file here.

PS: For some reason, I cant generate the xml file using the export wizard. I'm creating the XML files manually.

My sample XML file:

HPTEST01
Test
Telecom
HPTEST01

HPTEST02
Test
Telecom
HPTEST02

HPTEST03
Test
Telecom
HPTEST03

Your thoughts are highly appreciated.

TIA,
izad

Re: CI import problem using xml file

Hello,

Don't create XML manually. The xml format that OVSD can import is defined explicitly.

Re: CI import problem using xml file

Hello,

You must read carefully the Data Exchange Guide that comes with the OVSD Installation CD. It explains how to extract data from Excel files to create the appropriate xml files suitable to be imported.

Re: CI import problem using xml file

Hi,

as George says read the data exchange guide which will explain how to import from an excel. basically you do a mapping to export to .xml and another to import that xml that was generated.

Re: CI import problem using xml file

Thanks for all that replied.

My doubt was in the conversion part, from excel to XML.

Solved after getting hints for creating DSN for Excel data source. Everything works as expected now, and all 500 CIs are imported from excel.

Thanks.
