Best way to export CIs

Hi,

is there an easy way to export CIs from the CMDB (includeing the relations between them).

Like exporting all PCs with their related server (parent), installed hardware (child) and software (child).

Thanks!

Re: Best way to export CIs

Hey,

I missed to deliver serveral data.

First of all, we are useing Service Desk 4.5 with an Oracle database.

What we would like to do is to export several CI categories (like computer systems, servers) with relations / dependencies.

These exported data will be imported as CIs into another system.

My problem is to export the relations between the CIs.
I'm able to export all software applications, computer systems, CD-ROMs, ...

But how do I get the relations to cover the whole picture?

Thanks

Roy

Re: Best way to export CIs

Hello Simone,

thats my problem. I'm able to export a normal table view via "File / Export". But I don't know how to export the relations.

Re: Best way to export CIs

Hi Roy,
i don't thing exists this way...

But I can tell you that if you want to extract your relation datas you can develop your own application or sql script that reads data directly from tables:
- itsm_configuration_items (ci)
- itsm_ci_relations (ci relations)
- itsm_ci_component (parent/child)

this is the only way i know...and way we used in our project to give/extract datas to external systems/reports/persons

bye bye,

Re: Best way to export CIs

Hi Roy,
Maybe there is an other way. We use Report Manager of Westbury to do these things. Report Manager uses Business Objects. Business Objects can export relations of SD.
We can use SQL scripts without knowledge of SQL.
Hopes this helps.

Re: Best way to export CIs

Yes with a reportingtool like Business Objects it is possible to export data with relations very easy.

For this you have to have or create a description of your database (universe) or use an out of the box tool from Westbury (but it works the same as Business Objects).

Hope this information gets you on your way!

Bye, Bart
I didn't do it

Re: Best way to export CIs

Hey everybody,

thanks for your responses.

I managed to contact the oracle database directly. Now I'm on the way to find all the nessecary informations in all the tables...

Cheers,
Roy
