Assignment notification emails not working after upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 sp2

After upgrading to 5.1 sp2 notifcation emails when objects or approvals are assigned are not working

any help would be appreciated

I think yours is a known issue where the email approval templates are missing after upgrade.
Please check your email templates and see if the ones for approval are missing. If they are, let me know and I will dig up my old notes on how to reimport those email templates.
