Approval Voting page error

Hi all,

I'm trying out the Change Approval Vote on SD. I'm using SD4.5 SP 14.

Here are a few things I realised:
- the Tools->Options-> Send me email if I need to approve an item
Doesnâ t seem to work.

Workaround:
Added a 'Send me email if I need to approve an item' check box in the Person form.
This worked in sending email

Question:
1) Can I edit the content of the triggered email and where can I do it? Or cannot edit, is itl be better to write own DB rule and manage from there?

2) Why doesnâ t the Tool->Options->Send me mail work?..The Service Pages settings are correct.

Scenario:
I logged in to the Approval Page as one of the approvers(on the SD server), when I click on my name, the voting page doesnâ t come out and I get an error message. See attached file.

I tried logging in on another machine(client) as another approver, the voting page pops up, but with no content inside. Just a blank light blue window.

Any ideas what could have caused it?

Thanks.

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi Amy,

1) Before SP17, you cannot edit the email content and you cannot use DB rules to send the email to approvers on approvals pages in any simple way. It would be simpler to upgrade to SP17.

2) I have not had any problems with this option.

As regards the error, have you altered the jsp file at all? Can you post screen shots of the other errors and screens

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi Ruth,

I managed to find where i could edit the system generated Approver email. Its editability is really limited but suffice for the time being.

On the voter page,no i didnt make any changes to the jsp.

Attached is the blank page..

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi Amy,

Can the approvers vote using the full client GUI? Can you get the screens if you log in as system administrator?

It could be their access rights so check that - note that they will need a license for this to work.

Hope this helps

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi Ruth,

But according to other forums, to approve via Service Pages, the approver doesn't require licenses.

I have tried on my demo environment and using SP accounts submitting votes via SP is not problem.

But somehow on the live environment it doesnt seem to work.

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi amy,

The SP role does not give access to changes and you are doing approval on a change so you will need a full account (and so use a licnse) for this to work.

Hope this helps

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi Amy,

If you were not expecting to have to use licenses for this, I would just like to say that in my experience using email and the url voting method, means that the user does not use the license for very long. So hopefully, the (concurrent) license would be available for someone else pretty quickly.

Hope this helps

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi

When you get your blank page can you do a View -> Source to see if you can see the HTML.

I've seen this problem with SSP and I found the only way in the end was to remove and reinstall SSP.

HI,
This is the source of the blank voting page.

Is there any other solution besides reinstalling SSP?

Thanks,

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi

Would be worth seeing if you can copy a version of the JSP to the server you are using. You will need to open the JSP and resave it to ensure that it has a new file date on it. This will en sure that it is recompiled. Otherwise it's a reinstall I'm afraid.

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi amy,

Did you try it with an account which has a license (eg system adminstrator)?

If that works then it means you DO have to use a license for approver sofr changes.

Re: Approval Voting page error

Hi Ruth,

I did try with a Named License account. Still the same issue.

It worked with just an SP account when I tried with the SD demo data.

However, now I have this error, in my localhost_log /servicepage/log...:

Apparently, it could be something to do with sessions. Any ideas?
