Application Server is not running error

Hi,

I have restored OVSD database in development server and after that I am not able to login to OVSD on developement server. It is saying Application Server is not running.

I also tried to start OVSD services but it is getting started and automatically stopping when I try to open OVSD client. I have also tried to start OVSD application server. It is getting started but still not able to login to OVSD client.

OVSD Details:

OVSD 4.5 SP18
OS: Windows 2003
Database: MS SQL 2000

Please help me.

Regards,
Nija

Re: Application Server is not running error

Hi Nija,

Try to start the server using command line.
Go to cmd -> and change the folder to the server\bin. run the file startserver.bat. It will show you the error.

Most of the time the error is there because the DB is not connected. So, check the DB connection using Server Settings editor. Make sure the test -> gives a successful result.

Even then if it doesn't run and shows some error, paste the error and you may get more help.

Make sure in the new server, the JAVA_HOME path is set.

Hope this helps...

Saurabh

Re: Application Server is not running error

A very common issue with the restores is that the database account that you have specified is not the owner of the database and therefore cannot see the correct tables. In a SQL environment I find that it helps to detach the restored database and then re-attach specifying the database user that I have specified in the app server settings. Does the Server log give any indication about why it is stopping or not starting.

Re: Application Server is not running error

Hi Nija,

When you restored the DB onto Development, did you change the DB password? If you donâ t remember the password, try to change the password on the Database as well as change the password on OVSD Database configuration wizard. Hope this should resolve the problem.

Re: Application Server is not running error

hi!

Please start the SD Server from the the command prompt or please send us the server log file.

This will give us the insight on what is happening.
This can be find in
Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\service desk 4.5\server\log

Will update you, after seeing the log file.

Solution

Re: Application Server is not running error

Hi Nija,

This is because of the DB password issue. Change the Database password and set the same on OVSD server settings editor window as well....
