"An error occured when creating a request"

Hello Everyone,

I've successfully retrieved request information via the web service; however, when I try to a create a new request with PPM 7.1 SP5 this exception is thrown by SOAP:

"An error occured when creating a request."

I'm using PPM 7.1 SP5 with .NET.

Any ideas what is causing this error?

Are there some pointers on how to debug this generic error?

I don't see anything in the watch that indicates the cause.

What request fields are required and what should be their data?

Any suggestions at all?

Please help... thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

Re: "An error occured when creating a request"

Apparently, the issue has to do with adding Notes at request creation... the note username matches the login username for the note being added; however, "An error occured when creating a request" is being thrown.

Anyone seen any issues with adding Notes at request creation?

Not sure if you're doing this already, but try filling out all of the components of the note:

author, creation date and content

Thanks Tim... I believe I figured out the issue earlier this morning.

Basically... even if someone sets the creation date on a new note (i.e. notes[0].creationDate = DateTime. Now; )... you still need to _manually_ set createDateSpecified=true for the note.

Once I started doing that, it starting working properly (at least so far so good).

I really wish PPM would throw better SOAP exceptions (i.e. Notes creationdate not specified vs. "An error occured when creating a request.").

I agree. I have one I'm about to post that is very confusing.
