ksc_simple_respond not compatible with Linux

We've been using HP-UX and we're converting to Linux. This command does not seem to work in Linux:
ksc_simple_respond "ftp -nv
How can we convert this to work with Red Hat Linux?

Greg, are you getting some error? Is the ftp server working correctly on the Linux box?

Different flavors of OS frequently have variations in the prompts they generate. Try connecting to ftp manually for the old and new servers and verify you have covered all of the prompts being returned.

It's timing out. To troubleshoot, we have connected and ftp'd manually. We think the issue is in the redirection character <
It's the ninth character in the ftp string shown above.
