I have checked the starter log.

it shows that : Address already in use: JVM_Bind:8082

I have change the address to 8080 or 8082 and I also have killed the java pocess. The issue still exists

Please find my error log in the attachment.

Thank you very much.

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi Leo-Huang

In the serverLog I was see the following error:

:main:org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11BaseProtocol:2014/06/23-16:33:54.930 PDT: Error starting endpoint
java.net.BindException: Address already in use: JVM_Bind:8082

Looks like port 8082 is already in use by another application and that why PPM cannot start.

Maybe error occurs when the ppm spawned JVM does not stop properly (known issue) when the instance is shut down and continues to hold the port.

The next time you start the instance again, the port is still held by the old JVM. It is resolved by killing the java process.

Please check your system for ppm java process and kill it. You can use process explorer if you are using windows OS.

After that you need check the port 8082 is free.

Once you kill it then try to start the service again.

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi Leo-Huang,

Please check your system for ppm java process and kill it. You can use process explorer if you are using windows OS.
Or if you are using Linux OS , go to PPM_HOME/bin folder check for running available processes
Run “ps –ef grep –i java”
kill the appropriate java process using its number
"kill <processnumber>"

Thanks,
Sravan

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi,

Many thanks for your quick reply

Sorry. I may provide the wrong logs.

I kill the java.exe and that the log this time may tell the rootcause.

I found

"Context initialization failed"  in  the log.

Best Regards

Leo

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi Sravan,

Many thanks  for your reply.

I also  appreciate  the solution provided for the Linux.

My OS is Windows.

After I kill the java.exe, I found the log attached  that may be the rootcause.

It tells that "Context initialization failed".

But I  am still quite confused about it .

Best Regards

Leo

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Restart your Windows Server

Then go to PPM_ROOT/server/node and delete tmp and work directory

Delete tmp and work for your other nodes as well.

In case issue still exists then re deploy the cluster.

Cheers..

Solution

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi Leo-Huang,

I found an issue in your file log

PDT: Java Version: 1.7.0_40, Oracle Corporation

You cannot install and use PPMv9.10  with this JDK version – Please use JDK >= 1.6 update 07 and < 1.7.

I think you shoud used JDK version 1.6 update 07 is better.

Please remove old JDK version and install with JDK version 1.6 update 07, then you need reinstall PPM.

Hope this help.

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi,

Many thanks

It works.

I  also  test it that the java 1.7u4  can be used for PPM9.20, not for PPM9.10.

I just have a little question.

What the java version  do   the PPM 9.20 workbench  require?

It's hard to open the workbench from my localhost. I just change the java version from 1.7u4 to u6.

But it doesn't work.

Best Regards

Leo

Re: When istalling PPM, The server failed to start

Hi Leo-Huang,

PPM recommend you used Java SE Development Kit (JDK) 7u3 (1.7.0 Update3) or later (available from Oracle).

I also install  PPM 9.20 on my eviroment and i used version Java 1.7 Update 11, and workbench work fine.

Please try that and  you shoud open workbench on IE and Firefox browser, i think Firefox is the best.

The first time you open workbench you need install plugin for your browser.

Hope this help.
