Space issue and server restart issue After Upgrade

Hello,

Currently am upgrading from PPM 7.5 version to 8.02 version.

I have successfully completed my upgrade , but when I try to start server it is throwing some java errors.

I have attached the server log.

I have already raised an ticket with HP and tried few things like changing port numbers in server.conf file and removing tmp and work folders but nothing worked.

Suddenly I started reciving error message as : Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap".

So HP have asked me to increase RAM size, Now I have increased it to 4 GB and tried to restart the server now again it started throwing errors as in attached file.

But after trying for thrice I again started reciving error: Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for object heap".

So I asked my application team to increase RAM parameters , but they are of below opinion:

We can increase the servers memory all we want, but that's not what HP seems to be suggesting. I read:

From the information given, it seems the memory assigned to the java heap size is insufficent.

That's doesn't mean increasing the amount of memory in the system, that means adjusting parameters for the application so that it is better tuned to use available memory.

I'm also wondering if the application can even use more than 4GB of memory. The java binary you use is a 32bit one, which has the obvious limitation of only being able to address 2^32 bytes of memory.

As the heap size is a Java parameter specific to the application, there's nothing I can do about that

So could you please look in to serverlog file attached and please suggest me if anyone alredy know about this error.

Thanks In Advance.

Best Regards,
Harika.

Solution

Re: Space issue and server restart issue After Upgrade

Hi Shut down the PPM services.

run system taskmgr.

Check if any Java process are running you can kill these processes. Then start services again

While starting in case of clustered config wait for first node to start completely.

May be it will help u.

Hi Varun,

I have killed java process running and it released the required space, now am able to continue with out space issue.

But still server is not getting started.

I have performed below steps :

2.I have deleted tmp and work folders.

3.Then I have Deleted cookies and cache from my browser, and Deleted Java temporary files
