Resource Pool has more than 250 resources and cannot Manage Pool Capacity

I have tried removing resources but it appears that if any resource has been allocated effort they are added permanently?

Problem: Resource Pool has more than 250 resources and cannot Manage Pool Capacity, View Forecasted Demand, and View Resource Load

Message:

Note: This resource pool contains 267 direct resources and was likely created during the upgrade from PPM 6.0 to PPM 7.1(or later). All resources with a non-zero work load capacity, as defined in the resource profile in PPM 6.0, were added to this resource pool.

Because of the large number of resources in this resource pool, the following functionality is not available on this page: Manage Pool Capacity, View Forecasted Demand, and View Resource Load. Please use the Search Resources page to find resources contained in this resource pool.

Re: Resource Pool has more than 250 resources and cannot Manage Pool Capacity

Hi ur1

I’ve been wanting to reply to this one for a couple of days but never had the time.

First of all, removing resources from a resource pool that have been or are active part of a commitment to a Staffing Profile and / or project is never a good idea, even if disabled. You should rather terminate their participation and add a new one based on a certain date in the ‘manage participation’. Yes, you CAN remove resources, but again, not a good idea. Even when disabled, and given cost factors and rules apply, you will get unwanted changes on projects etc.

Regarding the error-message (I don’t know what actions you are performing where when you get that):

Basically it is self-explanatory in the message.

What you can do about it:

com.kintana.core.server.RM_MAX_RESOURCE_IN_POOL=250 is the setting that is preventing viewing of more than that amount of resources or adding more than that. You can increase the number but you MUST be aware of the impact of this on performance on the resource pool viewing plus related portlets etc that are listed in the error. Make yourself familiar on the impact this has.

There’s been a couple of enhancements requests logged for this corner of the application to make it more charming to update more than just one resource, push them from one RP to another, remove disabled users from view etc pp, none of which have effectively been pushed through simply because of the threatening data inconsistency.

Hope that helped a bit.

Best regards,

Dirk

Re: Resource Pool has more than 250 resources and cannot Manage Pool Capacity

Thanks for the reply Dirk.

Good advice and we have elected not to increase the maximum due to potential performance issues especially as we have just upgraded to V 9.21 and want to make sure it beds in before we poke that spider.

I appreciate you spending the time to help.

Welcome Ryan ;-)

maybe you could, if the answer was what you sought for, take the time to close this thread as solved, so everyone knows that an effective answer has been given.

Appreciate your input.

Have a great time and best wishes for your run with 9.21.

Best regards,

Dirk
