Re: Problem Uploading work plans - File Size

Hi,

There's nothing pointing to the error cause in this log file. Please reproduce the issue and then attach the "networking.log" file that should be in the same folder as "msp.log" (the plugin logs are cleaned every time MS Project is started).

Note also that 5000 tasks is a significantly large work plan ; there might be some exception occurring in PPM Server during import, so getting the PPM Server logs would help too.

- After how long time does the progress bar in MSP disappear?

- You have no other warning or message when it disappears?

- After failing to send the work plan, when you select menu "Show Errors, Warnings and Info" in the plugin, does anything show?

- You say that PPM don't have all the task loaded, but how many tasks are loaded exactly? In my experience, it should either load all the tasks or none (considering you are sending this MSP work plan to an empty PPM Project with no work plan).

Thanks,

Etienne.

Re: Problem Uploading work plans - File Size

Hello!

Okay I had the same problem, but in 7.5.  I even created a support ticket which I've pasted the response below.  The root of my problem was with my ActiveX settings.  The first and easiest thing you may want to do is try a different machine and try the import.  If that doesn't work then verify that the browser version you are using is supported by PPM, I suppose this should really be done first.  Of course you'll also need to verify your project integration settings are correct.  If adjusting your ActiveX settings doesn't fix your issue then you'll need to verify the tasks around where the import is failing and make sure the tasks are setup correctly.  I know 5000 tasks are a lot, but if verifying the tasks that aren't importing doesn't fix your issue then break the project up in chunks i.e. 1000 tasks see if it imports correctly, 2000 tasks try the import again etc.  When it stops importing then start checking the tasks again.

Good Luck!

Support case response:
Hello customer,

Another point we want to verify,

What are the browser security requirements to enable integration?

PPM uses an ActiveX control to provide some of the functionality for the integration with
Microsoft Project. This requires following web browser settings to be enabled on the

Client:
Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe This setting is required to initialize the MSProject.Application ActiveX control. This ActiveX control is supplied by Microsoft with the Microsoft Project client installation and is used to open Microsoft Project on the client machine from the browser. All other functions regarding the Microsoft Project Integration are performed by the PPM Microsoft Project Plug-in which runs within Microsoft Project. The Plug-In is used to synchronize projects with Microsoft Project. The user’s web browser can also call the plug-in functions through the ActiveX control to import a project into Microsoft Project.

In secure environments the required web browser settings may not be allowed on client
machines. In such environments the risk can be mitigated with one of the following
options:

1. Customers may enable this setting only for the ‘Trusted sites’ zone and not in the
‘Internet’ zone. The server hosting the PPM application needs to be added to the
‘Trusted sites’ zone.
2. Users may manually open the Microsoft Project project file. All the Microsoft
Project Integration features will still be available from the Microsoft Project
menus. However, the user cannot use the link in a PPM work plan to open the
associated Microsoft Project project file on the client machine.

Re: Problem Uploading work plans - File Size

Hi Alan,

The PPM Plugin for MS Project has been completely rewritten in 9.1, and doesn't use ActiveX anymore (so this cause can be ruled out in our case).

However, your advice to first try with 1000 tasks and increase the number of tasks is the correct way to troubleshoot whether the root cause is related to the number of tasks or to a specific task causing the failure.

Thanks,

Etienne.

Re: Problem Uploading work plans - File Size

Hi,

Thank you for your answer and my apologies for the delay.

Regarding to the questions.

- After how long time does the progress bar in MSP don't disappear, the MSProject is blocked.

- After failing to send the work plan, when I select menu "Show Errors, Warnings and Info" in the plugin, It doesn't show anything.

- 2223 tasks was loading

We decide to reduce the work plan task to 3000 and know its work.

Thank you very much for you support.

Best Regards,

Yeimy L. Escobar.
