PPM performance issue.

Hi All,

We are using PPM 7.1 with sp 10. We are already using 3 clusters but still facing many performance issue. We are using PPM over the WAN so I guess dynamic compression might be a bit useful.
Can any one please suggest me how can I implement dynamic compression in PPM.
Please advise if I can do anything else to improve performance.

Thank you,
Prateek.

Re: PPM performance issue.

Prateek,

By default dynamic compression is turned on, but in any event it is controlled by the GZIP_ENCODING_ENABLED server.conf parameter.

Can you be more specific with what "performance issues" means? Portlet load times, overall response times, network latency issues?

Re: PPM performance issue.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for response.
Specifically in performance issue we are facing problem with timesheet submission, Request approval and overall loading time.

So you mean I just need to set GZIP_ENCODING_ENABLED to true in config file to enable compression?

Thank you,
Prateek.

Re: PPM performance issue.

Dynamic compression is enabled in PPM by default, but if you use Apache/IIS to as a load balancer in cluster env, you need to enable dynamic compression in external web server. Please find the SysAdmin.pdf as a reference.

Re: PPM performance issue.

Hi Zheng,

Thanks for information!

Presently we are using clustered server with Apache Web Server. I couldn't find any information regarding dynamic compression with clustered server in SysAdmin.pdf. Shall you please put more light on how can I enable dynamic compression in a clustered server.

Thank you,
Prateek.

Re: PPM performance issue.

You may have already found this by now, but I just happened across this post so for future ref, the instructions in the 7.5 SysAdmin are:

To enable compression of dynamic assets on an Apache-based Web server:
1. Navigate to the /conf directory and open the httpd.conf
file in a text editor.
2. Add the following to the httpd.conf file.
# gzip config begin
LoadModule deflate_module modules/mod_deflate.so

SetOutputFilter DEFLATE
BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4 gzip-only-text/html
BrowserMatch ^Mozilla/4\.0[678] no-gzip
BrowserMatch \bMSI[E] !no-gzip !gzip-only-text/html
SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI \
\.(?:gif|jpe?g|png)$ no-gzip dont-vary
Header append Vary User-Agent env=!dont-vary

# gzip config end
3. Save and close the httpd.conf file.
