Milestone and Workplan Portlets behaving erratically

Hi,

On 9.10 and 9.12 we are experiencing the following strange problem:

On the Project Overview page the Milestone and Workplan portlets are behaving erratically.
The Milestone Portlet displays a blank area.
The Workplan Portlet sometimes displays normally, sometimes it displays no portlet area – only the borders.

Find sample screenshots of the same project overview page attached.

The Edit Workplan and View Baseline button still function

Has anybody seen something similar.

I've logged an HP call, but received no significant feedback yet.

After upgrading our DEV from 9.11 to 9.12 the graph section of all financial summaries throws a stack trace error...sounds similar...

Hi Philip,

what happens when you maximize either of the portlets. Does it show information then? Or same? Or stack?

Best regards,

Dirk

We also faced such issues in version 8.03.

This is specific to browser. Try to open it on IE8 or any other browser....

Cheers..

Re: Milestone and Workplan Portlets behaving erratically

Hi,

I've had my browser upgraded to IE8.

I'm having trouble reproducing the issue now.

I have had reports of this issue from testers who I believe were on IE8, but I'll try to verify.

For now it looks like it might be browser related.

Sorry, DirkF, currently can't reproduce it so I can't test maximizing.

Regards

Re: Milestone and Workplan Portlets behaving erratically

Hi All,

This was happening constantly, but now, a couple of weeks later, I can no longer reproduce this problem at all.

I'm going to let the HP Call be closed and I'm marking this as solved.

Re: Milestone and Workplan Portlets behaving erratically

The technical solution is as follows (as posted on HP Software Support Online --> Troubleshooting section):

Check the directory: \server\deploy\itg.war\WEB-INF\jsp\pm\project

You should see many files, two of which are called: "ProjectMilestoneSummaryPortlet.jsp" and " ProjectMilestoneSummaryPortlet.jsp" (leading space on the filename). The content of these files is different.

The problem appears to be that the file without the leading space contains the correct functionality, but PPM is actually picking up the file with the leading space instead, and this is thought to be what is causing the problem.

Firstly, take a safe backup copy of the file "(Blank)ProjectMilestoneSummaryPortlet.jsp", to somewhere outside of the PPM directory structure.

Then replace the contents of "(Blank)ProjectMilestoneSummaryPortlet.jsp" with the contents of "ProjectMilestoneSummaryPortlet.jsp"

After making this change, please delete the contents of the WORK and TMP folders for each PPM cluster node and restart the PPM cluster

Then retest.

This should be quite a simple test to make, to see if it resolves the problem. And it is easy to backout the change simply by copying back the original safe copy.
