Maximum characters for an attachment filename

Hi All,

Would like to know if there is any limit for having the maximum set of characters in an attachment filename. Was preparing a best practice document and had few comments on this. So need your inputs on this or if you could provide some best practice documents ever prepared.

Thanks!

Regards

Debasish

Re: Maximum characters for an attachment filename

Hi, Debasish,

the OS imposes a limit of 255 characters on the filename, but I have very rarely seen meaningful names that could reach this limit.

On the other hand, KNTA_DOCUMENTS has a limit of 200 characters for the file name and 1800 for the file description.

My personal thoughts is that you should instruct your users to stick to the basics and to name their files as meaningful as possible with the bare minimum number of characters.

cheers

alex
