Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

when using the Services to start the Mercury ITG application, the app never starts, just continues to say 'starting'. Is there suggestions on improving the performance? the box only has this app and it's logs on it.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Just a guess, Have you tried increasing the size of Heap in server.conf file.

com.kintana.core.server.SERVER_MAX_HEAP_SIZE

Please let me know if this does not work.

Have you tried to start it by command line ?

Try it check if the PPM starts.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

I had that same problem when I went from SP3 to SP5. It turns out that beginning with SP5, you the windows service will not start using a system account. You must give it a user account.

Once you specify an account for that service and reboot, the problem should go away.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

TY for your responses:
Mahendran - don't have the SERVER_MAX_HEAP_SIZE in our Config file.

Cesar - The services will start through cygwin but only the admin user can access.

David - We're on Version 7.1.0 SP4 - Did you experience the same issue with the Services saying 'STARTING'? We validate our users through LDAP.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Victoria,

I skipped over SP4 and went to 5. Perhaps the problem came from 4 instaed of 5. There is no harm in trying what I suggest. Give it a try and let me know.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Try following command from cygwin,

nohup sh kStart.sh &

This should give you some logs to figure out where you are having exact issue. If you cannot find it then attach it here and we can look at it.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Hi Victoria,
There has been issue similar to yours when trying to start PPM through Windows Services or using the stop and start commands through windows command prompt. Try using cygwin. If the application fails to start through windows services or windows command prompt, go to cygwin and type in the usual commands as follows:
sh kstatus.sh

this should confirm if the application is not running.

Then try to run the command
sh kstop.sh -now -user ADMIN (ADMIN should be a user who has admin rights)

try restarting the server using the commands:
sh kstart.sh

Let us know how this goes.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

I will try that and respond. I've successfully started the application, but the only person that can access the app (when starting from cygwin) was the user with the name of Admin. Unfortunately, that user doesn't have the FULL admin licenses.

We need to get the non-Prod environment available.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

You could give the user, all the licenses through the backend, using the tables KNTA_PRODUCTS, KNTA_USER_PRODUCTS, KNTA_ACCESS_GRANTS, KNTA_ACCESS_SECURITY and KNTA_USER_SECURITY.
You would need to grant Admin rights and licenses this way. Any thoughts on this option?

I'm OK with the licenses, but what about the error I'm getting.

Has the admin been linked to system level licenses: User Administration and Configuration?

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Victoria, has this server been running before? Is it a post-upgrade problem, a clone of Prod, etc?

Do you have a server log that you can post?

Do you know what Windows User Account the service is configured to run as?

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

This is a clone of Prod (not a post-upgrade problem)

I'll post the server log

Not sure which Windows User Account the service is configured to run as - how do I find that out?

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Log on to the windows box, go to the Services control panel and view the properties of the ITG service. Look at the 'Log On' tab to see the account it is using to run under.

Also make sure that the 'Path to executable' section on the 'General' tab contains the same service name as KINTANA_SERVER_NAME in your server.conf and that the and are correct as well. If not, you will need to change them or recreate the service with the correct values.

(Have you updated server.conf with new parameters specific to your DEV environment and run kUpdateHtml.sh?)

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

I am facing with the same issue of WIndows Service showing Starting.

Now in Log On, we have placed the user account who is authorized to restart the server.

And when I tried to start the service through Telnet the PPM starts, but the status in Windows Service is blank

and also once I close the telnet window, PPM also comes down.

Can anyone help on this.

Re: Issue with Starting PPM in our Development Server

Hi,

Thanks for the help. the Log creation is working fine and also the Windows services.

Now I am starting the PPM services using telnet, and the PPM starts successfully.

But now whenever I close the telnet window automatically the PPM also goes down
