How to move PPM documetum docbase

How to move PPM documentum docbase from Oracle 10.1.0 to Oracle 10.2.0.4? And how to link it again with your PPM application? Is there any additional process in doing the backup? Do you have any documents for this?

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Hello Chona,

there is a required procedure, you have to follow.

For upgrading your oracle database on documentum, you have to do the following steps:

1. Backup your PPM database (contains documentum relevant tables)
2. Backup your Documentum database
3. Backup your Documentum filesystem
4. Backup config files (dms.conf, server.ini...)
5. Install a the new oracle database parallel to your existing database
6. Import the dump file into the new db
7. Adjust the config files in ppm and documentum
8. Check and adjust your docbroker
9. Test connection to documentum
10.Integrate documentum with ppm (sh.kConig.sh)

Attention: Use the same repository name and document cabinet like before. Don't change it!!!

It is really important, that you use the same docbase id and user then before.

Do you use more than one repository in documentum?

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Hi Sacha,

I can picture out your instructions but I'm not that familiar with Documentum. I just want to clarify these steps:

1. Backup your PPM database (contains documentum relevant tables)
-- PPM Home folder
2. Backup your Documentum database
-- export Documentum db
3. Backup your Documentum filesystem
-- Documentum Data folder
4. Backup config files (dms.conf, server.ini...)
-- What are the exact list of config files?
5. Install a the new oracle database parallel to your existing database
-- Install the Oracle 10.2.0 home
6. Import the dump file into the new db
-- Import Documentum db
7. Adjust the config files in ppm and documentum
-- What are the exact list of config files? What data or parameters that we need to be change?
8. Check and adjust your docbroker
-- How to do this?
9. Test connection to documentum
-- How to do this?
10.Integrate documentum with ppm (sh.kConfig.sh)
-- OK

I think it is only 1 repository, how to verify this?

Many Thanks,
Chona

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Hi Chona,

1. Backup your PPM database
- export of your ppm db (include user & schemas)
- backup of ppm home directory (folder itg)
2. Backup Documentum database
- export of your documentum db (include user and schemas)
3. Backup Documentum Data folder
...\Documentum\data\
4. Backup config files
- most of them will be saved by step 1
PPM: dms.conf, cache.conf, license.conf, logging.conf, server.conf
DOC: server.ini, dbpassword.txt
5. Install Oracle 10g
- Ask your db admins, if it is recommended to upgrade your existing 9i db to 10g
- we installed a completely new db and imported the data
- see requirements for the documentum db in the emc technical specification sheets
6. Import Documentum DB
- imp documentum_db...
7. Adjust config files
- see step 4
- perhaps you have to change hostname, sid, port
8. Check & adjust your docbroker
- connect to the server, where documentum software is installed
- only to do, when you move your documentum software to a new server (other hostname and ip adress)
- Open Start -> Programs -> Documentum -> Documentum Server Manager
- Change to Utilities -> Server Configuration
9. test connection to documentum
- First, try to connect to your new db
- make quick checks (select count (*) from tab;)
- start your docbroker and docbase and analyze the both logfiles (you can do this with the documentum server manager, step 8)
- docbroker and docbase should start without error messages

You can check the number of repository's about the documentum server manager. It lists all existing docbases

Hope you can follow my instructions. Otherwise, please contact me again.

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Hi Chona,

please note, that support for Documentum 5.3 SP2 ran out since april last year.
So you should upgrade your documentum version to a higher version and check compatiliby matrix with ppm.

Contact me, if you need more infos.

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Attaching of documents (check in and out)is working fine, but I cannot search a document and the existing document cannot be open.

Can you figure out, what is the problem here?

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Okay, it seems that ppm doesn't match the linked document in documentum.
Can you confirm, that you enter the same name for the "cabinet" like before?
Can you confirm, that you make a backup of the old database including the tablespaces?

Please could you send me the ouput of the documentum docbroker and content server logfiles?

I will check, if they work correct.

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Yes I used the same cabinet and tablespace. Here's the error when I try to re-run the Documentum Server Configuration wizard.

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Hi Chona,

did you run a documentum index server for fulltext search before?
Can you check your file system for dmfulltext.ini?

Can you send me the docbase logfile aswell?

Re: How to move PPM documetum docbase

Yes, I run it before but I cannot find that files.

Here's the other logs. This is the first time I've done this and I'm not familiar with it.

Thanks.
