How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hello,

we are looking for possibilities to inform our ppm users about upcoming maintenance windows.

At the moment, we inform the user by email but we didn't get the feedback.

Is there another way to inform users about maintenance window?

Regards
Sascha

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Sascha, you can put a notice on the PPM login page. See enclosed.

Hi Erik,

we are using Single Sign On functionality, so we cannot branding the instance.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hi,

How about the following:
1 - create a list portlet with only one row containing your message
2 - create a shared module where you include this portlet and push this module to all PPM users

What kind of feedback are you looking for? With an email notification, you can set the Reply-To address to direct user replies.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hi,
We used email-notification in the past. So we won't use it anymore.

Today, we want to try the solution with the portlet.

But if anyone has another idea, please feel free to post it.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hi,
instead of a list portlet you can also use the so called "HTML Portlet", which makes formatting easier.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hi Sascha, yes, indeed it's again a list portlet but you just inject html in the row.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hello Kalin,
I actually meant the HTML portlet (see screenshot). For rather static text it is a nice "wysiwyg" way.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Hi Sascha,

Could you please share from where you select this HTML portlet? I can't see such portlet type defined in my PPM 8 SP 1. I'm attaching a printscreen.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Sure, you need to import it first. I don't know for sure if it came with release 8 or earlier.
Open > Administration > Portlet definitions > Import portlet definition > Java-Portlet > select HTML Portlet > Next > ...
The URL Portlet was useful for us in the past too.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

In version 7.1 SP11 it is not available.
Hopefully with PPM 7.5

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

The URL portlet is available at 7.5 SP6 and does provide the kind of capability you are looking for. I configured the URL to be http://:/itg/web/knta/global/Message.html.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

So I've imported the HTML portlet and added it to a page. I see in the default value it says to click on the Title of the portlet to edit the display but when I do that nothing happens. How do I get to the the screen where I can edit what the portlet is displaying.

Thanks.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

In 7.5, you edit the Preferences for the portlet on the module you have created. You just enter the URL where the web page resides. The page can be updated by just changing the file at that URL. I assume 7.1 would use essentially the same process.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

Jim,

I was actually refering to the HTML portlet. In the edit preferences for that portlet there is nothing that can be changed except for access settings.

Re: How to inform users about maintenance window?

With PPM 7.5 SP6, HP provides an http portlet, which can be imported by using the administration bar.

Maintenance window will be provided by this portlet.

Thanks all for help in this case.

Kind regards
Sascha
